An Afternoon in Balboa Park San Diego
Southern California is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world and there is a lot ot see and do. If we start from The Los Angeles area you will find a host of attractions and places to visit like Universal Studios and Hollywood. When it comes to fun beach cities in the Los Angeles area there are many fun places to hang out and spend a day including Huntington Beach, Newport Beach, Laguna Beach, Costa Mesa, San Clemente and Dana Point. These are all areas south of Los Angeles in the Orange County area. Areas like Newport Beach and Laguna Beach are ritzy areas where you can find a wide selection of fine dining, shops and some fantastic hotels, motels and resorts. These areas offer a more sophisticated styled vacation and are popular for couples.
Orange County is also the home to some great amusement parks and rides including Disneyland, the most popular attraction in this "Socal" area which is just east of Huntington Beach in Anaheim and Knotts Berry Farm, home of some incredible roller coasters and rides.
Below Dana Point is Camp Pendleton which stretches about 20 miles between San Clemente and Oceanside.
Once you get below this area you are getting close to San Diego and the small beach towns and communities that surround it including Carlsbad, Encinitas, Solona Beach Del Mar and La Jolla. Once you get into La Jolla you are in the San Diego City limit.
This area including Carlsbad and Oceanside is one of the fastest growing beach communities in the Southern California area and these cities have done a lot ot revitalize the areas and they have spent millions on improvements to the parks and infrastructure. In addition to these areas having great beaches to relax at they are also very close to other major attractions including Legoland California, which is a great place for kids 2-14, and The San Diego Wild Animal Park, which is a world famous place with Safari's and tons of elephants and other animals from Africa and other continents.
La Jolla California is one of the most scenic places in Southern California and is very well known for great golf courses, fine resorts and dining and some of the most beatiful coastal beach areas in Southern California.
One of the most popular things to do in La Jolla is to visit the La Jolla Childrens Pool which is a resting place for many seals along the Southern California coastline. Here on the beach the seals relax and have their pups and are very popular with over 80,000 people monthly visiting this area for photos and a nice walk.
La Jolla is also home to some of the most beautiful beaches including Windandsea Beach, which is just 4 blocks long right off of Nautilus Avenue, and Black's Beach, which is in the northern coastal section of the area and is the only "nude", or clothing optional beach in Southern California.
Black's Beach is below a very steep set of cliffs and requires a person to be able to do mild climbing to get to the beach area. Black's Beach stretches for about 2 miles before hitting the city of Del Mar and the Torrey Pines State Beach area.
Although Black's Beach is sometimes referred to as a nude beach only about 30% or less of the visitors actually go without clothing. This is because Black's Beach is one of the best surfing spots in Southern California and also because it is right by UCSD Campus and many students & families also visit the beach areas. The "nudists" find small secluded spots to lay out along the 2 mile stretch and that leaves plenty of room for everyone to have a nice section of bech to enjoy as they wish.
When it comes to some of the funnest and most popular beaches in Southern California and the San Diego area none can quite compare to Pacific Beach and Mission Beach. Not only are these some of the most popular beaches in the USA, but they are also surrounded by over 4,000 acres of beautiful parks and wetlands which is known as Mission Bay.
Pacific Beach is the heart of the San Diego beach community with a younger feel and more beach activities than in La Jolla or Newport Beach to the north. Pacific Beach is the most popular beach community in San Diego.
The pulse of Pacific Beach is youth and there are plenty of super cool clothing boutiques, beach bars, restaurants and reasonably priced hotels all aloing the area.
Pacific Beach and Mission Beach also have over 8 miles of boardwalk along the ocean and bays perfect for a nice walk, roller blading, bike cruise or jog. There are a ton of things to do in Mission Beach and Pacific Beach because the Mission Bay area creates a nice safe enviroment for jet skiing, paddle boats, Hobi Craft sailing and much more. This area is also the home of Seaworld San Diego, Belmont Park Amusement Park and
No areas of San Diego and Southern California have as many parks and recreation areas as Pacific Beach, Mission Beach and Mission Bay. These areas are also loaded with some very nice beach vacation home and condo rentals which sit right along the boardwalk along the 2 1/2 miles in Mission Beach. Pacific Beach is home to the nice hotels and resorts and the nice thing about this area is that it can cater to the budgets of those who have a lot or a little to spend. There are many hotels in the area along Mission Beach, Mission Bay and Pacific Beach where a nights stay can be as low as $59.00 per night and there are also super nice resort spots like The Catamaran Hotel and The Paradise Point Hotel which can go as high as $300.00 per night for their delux suites and rooms.
